Transportation Advice Required

My wife and I are visiting Boston this month and are staying at a hotel in Waltham. I have heard so many horror stories of driving/parking in Boston proper that I am reluctant to try and get around Boston by car.

Can anyone tell me if there is convenient public transportation from Waltham into Boston and if so, what form it takes (i.e. bus/trolley/subway/ etc.)

Thanks for your assistance.

It depends partly where in Waltham you are staying. There is a commuter rail stop in Waltham which is convenient for getting downtown (and from there, other places) depending on the schedule. My family is staying in Waltham this week and have plans to drive to either Alewife (end of the Red Line) or Riverside (end of the D branch of the Green Line), park there, and then ride the T in. I think that is probably the way to go... there%26#39;s a lot of parking at Riverside, but the Alewife garage tends to fill up in the morning as lots of regular commuters use it.

There%26#39;s also a bus out of Cambridge that goes to Waltham.. If you go to www.mbta.com, you can use their trip planning function to locate the bus times/route. also, the hotel should be able to answer the question for you too.

You DEFINITELY don%26#39;t want to be driving in the city. Pain in the neck. I live here and take the T in if I%26#39;m going in... unless it%26#39;s really early or late...the traffic and parking are too much of a hassle. Bring a book and...the T is relatively stress-free.

(There was recently an article in the paper about rude t employees and late trains and all that but ... in all reality, it%26#39;s not that bad... I%26#39;m sure there are horror stories, but...)(

Just a question: Do you have to stay in Waltham? If you stay at a Boston hotel, you can walk many places and really enjoy the city.
