Hi,
In the initial stages of planning a trip to Boston. Right now we%26#39;re just trying to figure out where to stay. Interested in the historic district (I think they consider this Beacon Hill?) Planning on arriving October 31, which is Halloween and leaving Sunday November 4th. There will be three adults. Looking to keep around $250 a night.
Also, would be interested in renting an apartment if you can recommend any or perhaps a website that I can look at or perhaps a B%26amp;B.
Is Beacon Hill a good place to stay location wise and for walking to sights? thanks
Place to stay
Please don%26#39;t think I%26#39;m being cheeky, but most of downtown Boston can be classified as an historic district. It%26#39;s just because the city is so old.
The downtown/Beacon Hill area sort of blends one into the other. It holds both the Omni Parker House on one side, and the Beacon Hill Hotel on the other. Check online but I should think you can find space in your price range at either. XV Beacon and Nine Zero on Tremont might be a little more.
All of these properties are within walking distance to most everything you%26#39;d want to do - Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, the North End and the Freedom Trail. However I would begin looking soon as October is a very popular time here.
If you%26#39;re arriving on Halloween, don%26#39;t forget to keep Salem in mind. It%26#39;s easy to get in and out of town via train quite easily, and you won%26#39;t want to miss the hijinx that is the town center during this week.
Place to stay
Hi,
Thanks for explaining to me this is all happening quick and I know that I have to act quickly as some places I%26#39;m looking at are filling up fast.
Right now I%26#39;m looking at renting an apartment or condo and I%26#39;ve found a few, but again not really familar with the geography of Boston. Want to be close to sights but then to walk around at night and feel safe to restaurants, bars, music etc.
Two of the places I%26#39;m looking at one says ';North end'; and the other ';heart of the north end two minute walk to Faniel Hall'; and it has a rooftop patio. How%26#39;s the weather late October first of November?
I guess also I%26#39;m looking for a neighborhood type feel and this second apartment looks like that. thanks for your help
We just got back from a 2-night stay at the Boston Yacht Haven and can%26#39;t wait to go back - it was the best!! The $250/night room had beautiful views and was huge - there was a king-sized bed and a couch, so that 3 adults could easily stay in same room (although only 1 bathroom) and there was even a dining table %26amp; 4 chairs, and a mini-fridge -included in the room price is a continental breakfast downstairs (muffins, danish, fruit %26amp; coffee/tea) - it is a five-minute walk to transportation %26amp; Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market - night time felt very safe - one night we just bought stuff for dinner at Quincy Market %26amp; brought it back to the room to feast - another night, had wonderful dinner at Joe%26#39;s American Bar %26amp; Grill that is right down the street -
I borrowed this reply to a similar inquiry from ';Cocklecove';. It may be of assistance to you.

For accommodations, take a look at CyberRentals.com; there are several rental apartments listed there for weekly rates cheaper than what you%26#39;d have to pay for just about any hotel.
I can personally recommend listing #311566 -- a 1-bedroom condo on Salem Street in the North End -- where I stayed last month. A great little apartment that looks even homier now than depicted in the photos which were taken awhile back; fabulous owners who have thought of everything their guests might need, e.g., a big basket with guidebooks, maps %26amp; brochures -- even toothpaste in the bathroom; there are laundry facilities in the building%26#39;s basement or, if you can%26#39;t be bothered with doing it yourself, there is a laundry down the street where you can drop it off for wash-and-fold service. The location is far more convenient that you might think from looking on a map (on the Freedom trail, easy walk to many major sights, and a quick walk to Haymarket subway stop %26amp; local bus terminus). And as an added bonus, the North End is picturesque and as an abundance of restaurants %26amp; cafes (primarily Italian). All in all, a wonderful place for $700/week.
Another resource: the Bed %26amp; Breakfast Associates - Bay Colony, a reputable listings/reservations service which has some apartments on its roster as well as B%26amp;B%26#39;s/guesthouse accommodations in a variety of neighborhoods, including Brookline and Cambridge. I think it would be most efficient to give them a call (toll-free number is on the home page) so you%26#39;ll have the benefit of their personal assistance in narrowing the options by price, etc.

If you wish more standard lodging with, e.g., maid service, the Omni Parker House is presently available for your dates -- on quikbook.com -- for $119/night. And the John Jeffries House on Beacon Hill offers pleasant, clean %26amp; comfortable accommodations on Beacon Hill at very reasonable prices.

Concerning my last positing, I should mention that the price quoted for the Omni Parker House has probably changed since this reply was posted by Cocklecove.
If you%26#39;re looking for apartments in Boston, craigslist.org is a good place to start.
The North End is one of the safest neighborhoods in Boston. Just don%26#39;t plan on having a car with you while you%26#39;re here. This is true for just about every neighborhood in Boston, except the outlying neighborhoods like Charlestown and South Boston, but parking in these areas is no picnic either.
The weather in late October-early November is typically high 40%26#39;s low-50%26#39;s, and it can be a bit rainy. BUT, this is New England, so if one day is 49 degrees and rainy, the next could be 70 and sunny.
For B%26amp;B%26#39;s in Boston, try the Clarendon Sq Inn in the South End. OR try the John Jeffries House in Beacon Hill. Technically, it%26#39;s a hotel, but it has a B%26amp;B feel. Visit johnjeffrieshouse.com.
Wow!
Thank you everyone for all the good info.
Edgers,
I can%26#39;t believe it but I did call the number for that apt. 311566 I spoke to Joanne who was very nice, even though she on a cell phone on Madison in New York trying to answer all my questions.
I%26#39;m torn I have this apartment you mentioned and one I found on www.vrbo.com #912530 Boston Water front apartment one block into North End.
Getting back to your apartment, It%26#39;s in a good location, clean, roomy there will be three of us and lots of action and sights around? I have to make a decision by the end of the week.
Dear fellow michigander...I am a huge fan of renting apartments and both choices do look nice. The owners on vrbo seem meticulous just by reading their text and looking at all their rental listings. However, the location and and the fact that it is a one bedroom would sway me to the cyberrentals one. Which ever you choose you will enjoy yourself. What a great time of year to go. If you have any time... take a drive and see the fall colors. Alot more color than my ole Michigan suburb.
dapmag3 - I have not stayed in the apartment that you mentioned but the area is safe, with many superb Italian restaurants and cafes and has easy access to the subway system, the ';T';, (2 lines) at Haymarket. It is located near to the waterfront which has many attractions and also near to Quincy Market and you can walk to anywhere. Healy is correct, you will have to forgo a car.at least for overnight parking purposes. I am not familiar wiht the second apartment but it is in the same general area, probably several blocks away. Ask the owners about the space,(square footage), for three people and parking if you must have a car. In the end the rent may be determinant. There is also a B%26amp;B on Beacon Hill which has Beacon Hill in the beginning of its name. You can find it by the search box or by perusing B%26amp;Bs on this site. There are parking gargages within a short walk to Beacon Hill. Good luck.
Just want to thank everyone. I did finally decide to go ahead with the Cyperspace rental. I couldn%26#39;t pass up the price $120.00 a night and Joanne, the lady I%26#39;m dealing with is so nice and accommodating I feel I%26#39;ve made a good choice. I%26#39;m sure on this formum again asking more questions.
