Logan to Cambridge transportation.

4 adults with luggage, any advice on cost and the easiest way to get to hotel in Cambridge, not sure if taxi will take us all.

Logan to Cambridge transportation.

You can take the Silver Line ($2.00 each with cash, less if you purchase a CharlieTicket from the airport). The Silver Line runs in about 15-min intervals and stops at each terminal. It will bring you to South Station. From there, follow the signs to the Red Line Inbound (toward Alewife) and take the train to your destination stop.

Your hotelmay or may not be near a T Red Line Station. Where are you staying?

Royal Sonesta Hotel, Cambridge. I am not really sure about using the T line etc with all the luggage we will be carrying.

I have almost the same question, as I am arriving very early AM on a red eye and don%26#39;t want to make my son go through morning trafifc to the airport to pick me up. He lives near Cambridge (Somerville) and I though I could get a shuttle bus to a major hotel in Cambridge and he could pick me up there, rhater than a taxi. I saw an ';Ace Transportation'; listed as a shuttle on the Logan web site.

Can anyone advise on this? Thanks.

Hi,

Getting to the Royal Sonesta via the T is a Royal pain...excuse the pun. It%26#39;s not near any T stations. You%26#39;d have a very long walk with luggage from from the Lechmere Green Line station, which would be the closest stop. It%26#39;s not horrible when it%26#39;s just you, but coming from the airport, carrying luggage, it will be very inconvenient. I%26#39;d suggest taking a Taxi, or one of the van services from Logan. I think four of you can easily fit in a taxi, if one sits up front, and some of your smaller bags sit on your lap. Some of the taxis are minivans, and you can wait for one of those to come by at the airport, if you wanted.

As for the other question, if your son can pick you up in Cambridge, my suggestion would be to take the Silver Line to the Red Line, and take the Red Line to the end at Alewife, and have him pick you up there. It%26#39;s easy to get around there with a car, and it would be easier than driving to any of the other stations. You pick up the Silver Line right outside your arrival terminal, and it goes directly into the South Station Red Line station, where there is one flight of stairs down to the Red Line platform, so it isn%26#39;t that big a deal.

Thanks for the advice, I will travel by taxi, seems more convenient.

Funny---I was on the Blue Line, at Gov%26#39;t Ctr last night and saw a big party of travelers, all lugging big suitcases and the sight reminded me that sometimes a taxi is well worth it.

Thanks for the help--my main problem is that I%26#39;m lugging a larger suitcase than normal (stuff son left behind in move to your town). I don%26#39;t mind the subway, but will other passengers be annoyed by a large rolling suitcas in the AM commute time? That%26#39;s why I%26#39;m thinking a shuttle van to a Marriott that seems to be in the MIT/Harvard area. ( BTW my son will insist on picking me up, but I%26#39;m highly capable and rather independent.)

If you have a large suitcase, particularly when you don%26#39;t know your way around, a taxi makes sense.

Hi Linmac,

The trains are crowded from about 7am-9am. However, a lot of people get off at South Station, where you will be getting on, and even more get off at the next two stops. I take the train every morning, and I always see people with huge suitcases, duffel bags, baby carriages, etc. It happens every day and it%26#39;s not a big issue.

Regardless of the size of your luggage, like I said, you%26#39;d have to carry it out to the curb at Logan anyway, which is where you pick up the Silver Line bus. Then, it%26#39;s just one flight of stairs at South Station, and then at Alewife, walk outside to the pick up area and wait.

Of course a taxi will be a bit more convenient, but it will cost you $35 with tip. I don%26#39;t know if the hotel vans need proof that you are a guest, in order to get on, also. Oh, and many times, those vans travel to all the hotels on one trip, so if they don%26#39;t get to Cambridge until they%26#39;ve travelled to all the Boston hotels, you could be riding a long time.
