Need suggestions as to transportation

I will fly into Boston in mid Oct. Am looking for suggestions as to transportation from the Boston Airport to Gloucester.

I%26#39;ll be boarding a ship the next morning and would like to spend the night close to the Pier in Gloucester.

Would a car/driver be advisable? I will be traveling solo.

Any car/driver suggestions will be appreciated! Also, hotel suggestions.

Thanking you in advance,

Martita

HI, MARTITA

There is commuter rail service between North Station in Boston %26amp; Gloucester, but it doesn%26#39;t run nearly as often as the subway/trolley service in Boston itself. So given how far away Gloucester is %26amp; your time constraints, a hired driver is the way to go -- and even so, you might decide it%26#39;s not worth the expense, time %26amp; aggravation for such a brief layover.. In addition to those suggested by NoMo, here are 2 other taxi/limo companies for you to contact:

If you don%26#39;t have your heart absolutely set on Gloucester, but simply don%26#39;t care to stay in Boston itself, Salem would be a closer/more accessible place to spend the night %26amp; would still give you a taste of a New England seaside town.

And you could avoid highway traffic altogether by taking a ';fast ferry'; between Boston %26amp; Salem -- if its schedule jives with yours:

I%26#39;m a bit confused. Are you boarding a boat in Gloucester the next day or trying to stay overnight and then get back to Boston to meet a boat?

If you just need a one-way trip to Gloucester, then I%26#39;d call the taxi companies listed above. When you are going that far out of Boston, it%26#39;s usually less expensive to call the local taxi who knows your destination and can meet you at the limo area of the airport than to rely on %26#39;luck of the draw%26#39; from the airport taxi pool.

If you choose to pick up commuter rail in downtown Boston (North Station), there is a bus system that services Gloucester, but I%26#39;m not sure how frequently it runs.

You might want to check out www.cape-ann.com or even call the Gloucester chamber of commerce for advice.

Happy Planning!!

Wow...I%26#39;m curious... what kind of ';ships'; leave Gloucester? I associate that place with fishing boats and whale watching boats and maybe the occasionoal schooner or somethign like that...

Ships, I assocate with Black Falcon pier....

CoCo, martita explains on her other thread (in Gloucester forum) that she is sailing out of Gloucester with Seabourn for a cruise down the Eastern seaboard.

I%26#39;m envying her -- Seabourn is a high-end, luxury cruise line which uses small ships, e.g., its Pride carries less than 300 passengers. Sounds like a marvelous vacation!

Many thanks for your suggestions!

Seabourn Cruise Line has 3 ';Yachts';~~the Pride, The Legend and The Spirit. Max. Guests is 208~~~165 Staff and Crew.

I have been sailing Seabourn 7 years and yes, it%26#39;s a grrrreat cruise line! This will be the 2nd year we%26#39;ve called on Gloucester.

I will certainly enjoy my stay and again, ';thank you'; for your help!

Martita
