Pet Friendly Accomodations

Any thing that will allow us to bring our cherished golden... will consider all options.....

Pet Friendly Accomodations

Page back to GQH%26#39;s ';Dog-Friendly Inns'; question in the Nantucket forum, last updated on March 11, 2007. Man-from-Nantucket gave a list of places that accept pets. If you have a golden retriever, be sure to state that when you call, since some may only take smaller dogs.

Also, go back a few more pages to June 28, 2006 and see the post by Lisa0711. It has some more info on visiting Nantucket with a dog.

many thanks! Do you travel with a pet? If so, can you rec. any other places other than nantucket - it was just a thought as we had viisted there a long time ago, beach friendly places in the new england area are a challenge we relaize -which is why we find it necessary to find a place that our hound will be comfortable while we are out - just like home....beach like areas-anywhwere nice within 4-5 hours drive time from new york - we are about an hour -n-half north of NYC. north south east.....will be much appreciated.

Unfortunately, our experience with traveling with our Chesapeake Bay Retriever has been limited to off-season tent camping, where dogs are rarely a problem. We found that North Carolina and New Jersey weren%26#39;t especially pet-friendly.

Actually, Nantucket is one of the best. In the old days (pre-1980%26#39;s) it wasn%26#39;t uncommon to see black Labs wandering around by themselves - it seemed like half the island%26#39;s permanent residents had one. They called them ';Nantucket Blackies';). Today, plenty of people wander around the town with their dogs. They aren%26#39;t usually allowed in the stores, so people just hitch them to trees or benches for a few minutes while they browse the shops. Many shops keep bowls of water for them outside their doors.

Officially, they aren%26#39;t allowed in the life guard areas of the beach, but I%26#39;ve never seen it enforced much. People bring their dogs to the beach and set up just outside the life guard area, and you see the dogs playing in the water with the kids. If you take your dog to the beach on the shuttle bus, bring a towel for him so he won%26#39;t be too wet for the ride home. As long as your dog doesn%26#39;t bark incessantly if he%26#39;s left alone when you go out for dinner or drinks, you really shouldn%26#39;t have a problem bringing him to a pets-allowed place on Nantucket.

That was good information - thanks! I spent some time online researching a bit on Nantucket home rentals for the summer - who are also dog friendly and was plesantly surprised to see many that did allow pets. So I beleive I have found a new place to go with the hound! Little late for this seaosn perhaps, fall looks good to us.

Camping with your dog - we do that in the upstate NY island camping at Indian lake with the dog. Tent camping, boat in and out. Its like no other. From time to time I require sheets, good china and a glass for evening cocktails....so I search for land....

Thanks again - this is a great site for finding out inside info!..

Try the Woof Cottages or the Woof hotel: 800 ISLANDS for reservations!

They even have Yappy hour...

We travel a lot with our 2 labs. We have found the Outer Bankds in NC to be very pet friendly. We usually rent a pet-friendly house for a good price off-season. It is about a 10 hour drive from Orange County, NY. We leave really early and get there by check-in. Dogs are welcome on the beaches.

Where do you camp in Indian Lake. Are you actually lakefrond? We would love to try that as well.

Another fan of the Woof Cottages. Heading out for our second stay next week to catch the last of the off season rates. wooohoooo!! The spoiled old viszla is loving the attention he knows all the dogs in town get!!! Great dogloving island!
