Priceline areas and bidding

I have read and am familiar with strategies for bidding on Priceline, but am not familiar with Boston. We will be arriving 7/21 for a one night pre-cruise stay. I%26#39;ve booked the Best Western Quincy as a back up as they provide transportation from the airport and to the dock.

For a couple of weeks I%26#39;ve been bidding on the Waterfront and Downtown areas for a hotel with no luck up to $130 for the night although I%26#39;ve seen others with wins in the area for $100 or so in July. Perhaps the problem is the Sat. night only stay, I%26#39;ve read that some hotels don%26#39;t offer as much for this type of bid.

My question is - how is the Copley area? Would this be a good addition to the bidding? From what I can tell it is still fairly close to the dock and transportation. Any advice and thoughts would be appreciated.

Priceline areas and bidding

Yes Copley area is very desirable.....might not halp you with your bidding however, as it is a very popular location, especially in the summer.

Brighton, Medford, and South Boston are free re-bid zones if you%26#39;re going for sometghing ABOVE 2 1/2 stars

Priceline areas and bidding

I%26#39;d avoid the South Boston area because it includes some hotels in areas that aren%26#39;t so tourist-friendly. I like the Doubletree near Carson Beach but would not want to stay at the hotels near South Bay or the Roundhouse. (that%26#39;s my opinion...) With priceline, I think you need to be sure you feel good about all hotels in a given area because there%26#39;s no turning back once you%26#39;re booked...

Thanks for the quick responses! I will only be bidding for 4* so will use S. Boston for free rebids.

I got a hotel in Copley on a priceline bid. It%26#39;s an excellent area.

Still no luck by adding Copley and going up to $135. :( There is a 3.5 star on Hotwire for $106- BackBay, Copley square. From what I can tell its probably the Hilton or Sheraton. Does this seem like a reasonable room for what I need?

Our plans for the afternoon before the cruise are to exlore Boston a little - mostly walking around and seeing what there is to do.

Both hotels would be fine for a starting of point for exploring Boston.

lhall,

The hotel matches the description of the Back Bay Hilton (on the hotwire pinned list on betterbidding.com. The Sheraton is ranked 3.5 out of 5 stars on TA, and the Hilton is ranked 4 which matches the hotwire description).

The cheaest rate on the Hilton Web site for your date is $249 so I think that%26#39;s a good deal.

I have stayed there before, and the rooms are smallish because the hotel itself has an angular shape. But it is perfectly comfortable and for one night would be fine.

Just to throw a curve at you...

Since there are only two priceline recognized 3* hotels in Copley* why not try bidding 3* on priceline for around $70 and then add a few rebids to see if you can do better. The other 3* hotel is the Copley Square Hotel. If you would be okay with either of them, you could save maybe $20-$30 more.

*According to the pinned lists on betterbidding.com and bidding fortravel.com.

I booked on priceline for late June, 3 nights, priceline showed as 4 star, and I won at $125 for Millenium Boston. It%26#39;s right in downtown and looks like a nice place on its website. Has good and bad reviews in TA, but if your out and about most of the time, not a big deal, location the low price is most important in my opinion.

Hi,

According to Priceline, many of their participating hotels will not allow a Saturday-night check-in as part of the Name your Price system. That%26#39;s probably why you are having such trouble.

I just saw on the Clarion Bulfinch Hotel%26#39;s website, that they have rooms for as little as $179/night. It%26#39;s a nice hotel, and a good location for touring, so you might want to just book there instead:

Thanks for everyone%26#39;s help. Today on Hotwire a 3.5 star in Copley showed up for $109. I knew it had to be the Sheraton or Hilton so we went ahead and booked it. It was the Hilton and we are quite pleased with the result. Our backup in Quincy was cancelled and we now know where we will be.

Now to decide what to do that afternoon while we are in town!!!
