There was record breaking traffic Monday. Reports indicated there was at one point an 18 mile back up to exit 7. That is completely absurd. Plan well when departing on a holiday. Leave very early or very late. Why sit in traffic 2-5 hours?
IMHO
18 mile back up Memorial Day Monday
That%26#39;s hideous. Now I%26#39;m concerned about our trip at the end of June, although we%26#39;re leaving before the 4th of July.
18 mile back up Memorial Day Monday
Do not come on a Friday afternoon or Sat. AM. Do not leave on a Sunday afternoon or night. NEVER travel on an actual holiday. Easy peasy.
The problem is, we don%26#39;t really have a choice. The place where we%26#39;re staying has Saturday-Saturday rentals.
The problem over the long weekend was leaving the various destinations to get home on Monday, not actually getting to the different places. I would say you%26#39;ll be okay when you arrive, the earlier the better, that%26#39;s all.
The construction is completed at the bridge for the Cape finally, so that should alleviate quite a bit of GETTING to your destination. The newspaper %26amp; the news on TV showed how smooth it was on the way to the bridge! We just couldnt believe it actually showed cars MOVING along! Yet, in reality, it%26#39;s still brutal leaving the various summer resort areas all over New England. You know, it%26#39;s just as bad leaving the state of Maine and New Hampshire, it%26#39;s like that all over New England more now than ever before, unfortunately.
I%26#39;m going to be going to the Cape myself in July on a Saturday PM. I%26#39;ll see how it is and get back to you, may be I%26#39;ll be eating my words, I%26#39;ll let you know!
Our famiy home is right off Route 28, and traffic congestion has always been a problem during the summer months, but more so over the past few years. I always try to plan family get-togethers for early spring, but this year we had no choice. We haven%26#39;t been back since the Sagamore rotary was taken out and will be interested in seeing the effects.
most rentals are Sat. to Sat.
Leave early or late...
Coming from northeast Massachusetts I was interested to see how the Memorial weekend traffic would be . The Friday -Saturday reports were very good going to the Cape. What happened was that the weather was so great that most people left later in the day than usual . I think because the ride down was pretty good that many thought it would be the same on the way home. Also , there was a 5 car crash on route 6 that tied up things as well. This past weekend %26#39;s weather was great not usually what we get at this time of year. -
